FAQ

Q: What is the time period for "X-Men: Our Convictions"?
A: Our Convictions takes place shortly after X-2, with our own alternate ending. The events of X-3 do not apply, and thus you should forget all about it! We've moved things up to be present day/current. OC also applies many comic book influences into our plot, that definitely allows us to take a different look at the X-Men movieverse RP scene.

Q: So, because of the game's influences, I can play a character that was never introduced in the movies?
A: Of course. We love all X-Men related characters.

Q: Are original characters allowed in Our Convictions?
A: Yes. They are quite welcome!

Q: How do character journals work?
A: Each character should have their own journal that can be personalized for that character. These journals are student journals, personal diaries, or whatever else you need them to be. Xavier students can view all student journals unless specified otherwise by the writer. Also, these journals can be used to keep copies of logs in case of a problem online. We suggest using your personal journal as such, keeping those posts private, because we know that our computers have eaten logs a great many times and it as only a copy that saved us.

Q: Is there a character limit?
A: Currently, no. The more characters that a person can pick up and play well, the more fun we as a group will have. But please remember that with more characters comes more responsibility for plotting and posting.

Q: How often do I have to post?
A: Please review the RULES for this question.

Q: Do I absolutely HAVE to play a canon character?
A: Yes. Our ratio is for every canon, you can have one OC.
CANON -> ORIGINAL -> CANON -> ORIGINAL, and so on, so forth. You cannot skip around this set up, and no, people cannot give you their original character spots ;P

Q: Can I bring characters that have been killed back from the dead?
A: Yes and no. Any character that has had an on-screen death in the movies is considered dead with no hope of return.

Q: What's with all these communities I have to join?
A: Multiple communities are nothing more than a different way to organize posting for the game. There are simply three, anyways. One for the IC, one for OOC, and one for any backstory posts you'd like to do. Sometimes it's nice to get away from chaos, and just RP a good one on one with someone. We understand that. =)

Q: Is there a list of characters that are needed for the game/plot? Maybe just a list of characters that people want to see in game?
A: YES! There is a list set under the Wanted cut.

Q: Are there guidelines for "Player-Bases?"
A: Yes. It would be advisable that you pick a model who is not all over the tabloids 24/7. Reality TV 15 Minute Famers should be avoided (People form AI, The Real World, The HILLS, especially.) We also would prefer for people's PBs to branch out. We would prefer people to not use over-killed PBs. (Angelina Jolie, Brad Pitt, Nicole Kidman.) Someone unknown is a great way to go. Also, you need to try to keep your PB close to your character's chosen age. This is to help give the game a hint of realism.

Q: How do I know what the weather is like?
A: This game is virtually ran in the same time range as IRL. In this cause, you could use the weather and/or conditions of your area. That would be the easiest. Just make sure you let everyone know if you say it is raining in a certain city because we don't want different weather conditions within a 20 yard radius. Thanks.

Q: What kind of RPing will we be doing here?
A: This game should be mostly AIM Log RPing, but it is not currently being enforced as the standard. If you want to do Action Posts in the community journals, more power to you. If you want to do logs with another player via another IM program, more power to you as well. The point is to play.

Q: Do I have to have AIM?
A: AIM just happens to be the preferred logging tool. We HEAVILY suggest getting it. So many people use and have it. However; Mod!Leigh can suggest alternatives to actually downloading AIM if you don't want to do so. All you have to do is ask.

Q: Is there a format for Community Posts?
A: Yes. View the RULES, please.

Q: Can I jump into any post?
A: Yes, as long as the post is designated as "OPEN." If it is closed to replies, you cannot do so. Logs cannot be replied to and private entries are off limits as well. We would encourage people to jump into threads rather than just always making new posts, because it brings more interaction into the community and gives new depth to characters. However, it would be wise for you to use your own common sense.

Q: Is it okay for me to post again even if I'm in an active thread?
A: Yes and no. Yes, if this new thread occurs on a different day or at a different time. No, if it does not. Your character can't be in two places at once (unless, of course, you're Multiple Man). Common sense, people. The reason we like making the game follow along with RL is because this allows for active players to play as much as they'd like. Can't make a post today? You're free to do so on one set tomorrow as long as your character isn't stuck somewhere! Isn't that great?!

Q: How long do posts have to be?
A: We would like to say 2 paragraphs minimum for action posts. You need a lot of detail to set the mood and the scene for others to join you. When logging, posts can be shorter (even one liners if you wish), but we hope you'll do your best to make the scenes detailed. No one's saying you have to write novels, but we are saying that you should give us something to work with! Give some details about what’s going on around you, what you're thinking, just... something! This is like writing a story. A reply with no effort does not encourage anyone to want to reply.

Q: What are NPCs?
A: NPC stands for "Non-Player/Non-Playing Character." These are characters that are used within a plot/post, but aren't actually associated with a Mun. NPCs can be random people in the background that you interact with or important plot characters. Its up to you to decide. Reoccuring NPCs need to be used only for plot purposes.
