PREMISE
With the broken mind of his only son as a tool, William Stryker gave the command. With a controlled Xavier by his side, the task was daunting…but not incredibly difficult. With a simple whisper, the deed had begun.
The world’s mutants were to be destroyed.
Stryker was not, however, unchallenged. To start the chaos at hand, a newly returned, and unbrainwashed, Cyclops was there to help. There was not much he could do. Five minutes... five minutes was all it took for 30% of the mutation population to be completely wiped out. It was up to Nightcrawler and Storm, the effects of Stryker‘s plan already pounding on their bodies, to teleport themselves into the Cerebro chamber, and put an end to the destruction..
Though Storm was instantly trapped in Jason’s powers, she would not go down without a fight. Summoning up an arctic blizzard, she froze the young man until his hold on her loosened. When his control began to slip, Xavier was also made aware of the world. Nightcrawler quickly took the charge of the Professor, bringing him to the others who waited outside the door. As the chaos had stopped, the minds of the targeted mutants went back to normal. All the while, the dam, which had been weakened years of neglect and a super powered battle, began to buckle.
Jason was left behind. His father had managed to narrowly get away from the impending collapse of the dam, though he was not yet out of the woods. Intent on finding another form of transportation, Magneto and Mystique, always ready to save their own skins, halted his escaped. Pyro, after having left his fellow students aboard the jet, raced to join them, changing sides at a critical time. The three of them lifted off in the helicopter that Stryker had intended to use to flee.
The remaining X-men quickly boarded the X-Jet, which had taken damage after Rogue’s unskilled flight. They were left stranded, unable to lift off . Not only were the engines not responding, but one of the jet’s wings had sunk firmly into the With danger quickly approaching, Jean, while still on the plane, held the damn in place telekinetically, while Kurt volunteered to teleport back outside and try to dig the mired wing free from the ground. The others focused on trying to get everything else back up and running. When Jean was no longer able to hold the crumbling dam together, it was a race against time to get back in the air. The engines came back online, the wing was free, and they were finally able to take off. Nightcrawler, weakened by his experience in the Cerebro chamber and Xavier’s attack on his mind, was unable to teleport back into the X-jet, and was caught in the violent flood. The guilt that filled Xavier after he‘d been filled in was beyond words. Still, he held it together for long enough to visit the president, delivering a message from the mutant side of the line. With the president finally made aware of what he had been supporting, they could only hope that what was left of mutant kind would benefit. It seemed that after all that devastation, they might actually receive a bit of hope.
The X-Men returned home, and found themselves rampaged by the news media. More than a few of Xavier‘s own students had been the target of his attack. They, along with so many others, were dead. The people of the world were frantic, both human and mutant alike. With all of the pain and heartache weighing down on his mind, Xavier went into a severe depression. Days passed in which no one, not even Jean, saw him. He simply sat in his room, lingering on what could have been done. With no signs of condolences from the human side of things, Magneto on edge. How was it that no ‘normal‘ human was lifting a finger in remembrance of the mutants who had died? There was no call for a memorial, no touching speech delivered by the leaders of the world. It seemed that those who considered themselves normal were content enough to pretend that the events leading up to the massacre had never happened. Magneto used this to his advantage, despite his anger. More recruits were brought under his wing, joining up with the Brotherhood.
All but leaderless, what hope is there now for the X-men?
