RULES
We as moderators want to maintain a comfortable atmosphere for creative writers to let loose and have a good time. And thus, we need to have a list of ground rules and guidelines for everyone to go by, just to retain some semblance of order within this game.
Before we get started, we’d like to profusely apologize ahead of time if any of the rules come off as too strict or rigid; so, if you have any questions, concerns, or complaints, please do not hesitate to contact one of us. We promise not to bite too hard!
GENERAL
+ Rules can be changed. If you don't like one of the rules, take it up with the Mod. If the change is reasonable, it can be made.
+ What a Mod says -- goes. Mods are human and mistakes can be made, but please respect that we are the moderators and we keep this game running smoothly as well as keeping continuity going. Communication is important for a good RPG, so suggestions and discussions about plot are very welcome. Just be respectful and you will be respected in return.
+ Once you join, there's a friend-list button on the CONTACT page. That's a good start. :)
+ There is currently only one school which is taking students, as well as 2 other groups. More could possibly come as plot thickens.
------The Xavier Institutes for Higher Learning (houses the X-Men) ------The Brotherhood of Mutants ------The Unaffiliated
+ Activity Defined: Character involvement in threads with other characters/narratives concerning only themselves and NPCs/personal journal entries (including emails).
+ Baseline Activity:
- Post at least ONCE a week. This could be in the form of participating in a thread, writing in your character journals, or posting an OOC notice. If we don't hear from you in two weeks, you will be contacted via e-mail and/or IM. If you do not respond within a week, you will be removed from game; it's as simple as that.
Remember, kids: Being active is what keeps a game alive. So, please, keep those threads/logs/journal entries coming!
+ In the event of a personal issue that will pull you away from the game for an indefinite amount of time, please email, post, or IM a Mod. Your character can be held for you for at least one month, depending on the situation. Also, periodic update messages can lengthen your hold.
+ Things like godmodding, metagaming, and OOC harassment are unacceptable. Depending on the severity of the incidents, the Mods have the right to remove said players from the game.
+ It would be extremely advisable to have an AIM screen name. You can use your private SN or you can create a special one for the game. If you do not know how to make one or have problems with this rule, contact a mod. You may also use Y!IM or MSN, but AIM is preferred.
CHARACTER/APP.
+ Characters who have had ON-SCREEN deaths via movie-verse will stay dead. This is definite and will not be bent. The only exceptions to this rule are those whose deaths were indifinite. Others accepted with background from the player. Characters who are dead/depowered via the comics or cartoons can be accepted because of the mostly movie-verse setting here. A list of dead/unavailable characters can be found under the wanted/banned/deceased tag.
+ You can play as many characters as you can manage. All players are encouraged to play more than one character, so go ahead if you would like. Please remember that the more characters you have (especially influential canons), the more responsibility you will need to shoulder in the game to keep it flowing smoothly.
+ OCs are welcome at Convictions. Please understand that OCs will be subject to a vast amount of poking and prodding to make sure they are well put together. We have a RATIO set up. For every canon you are allowed ONE original character. That should be followed with another canon, if you wish for another character. Canon characters should be first on the list, before accepting OCs.
+ Currently, Convictions is strictly X-Men characters only. Other genres are not available at this time. Off-limits characters can be found on the wanted/banned/deceased tag.
+ Time travel/Universe hopping are currently not available to be used as a mutant power or within a character's history. Characters that have these powers/histories can be altered so that they are still acceptable, but it will take some work.
+ This RP is influenced by the movies and that means player bases are actual persons that are convincing enough to walk around in a real world. When choosing a player-base for your character, please consider the proper age, ethnicity, and overall look. It is understandable that a real picture for certain characters could be hard to find, considering that all the characters do not look human. But at least try to find a close match. Students at the campus "uncomfortable with their appearance" (i.e. hard to manip) will be allowed "image inducers" to remedy that situation.
+ If you choose to play a character that is well known, there is a chance your character could be an NPC before you joined. This means they could have been taken on missions, interacted with other characters, etc. Take this into consideration when you take on the character because you will not be able to change their in game history unless you talk to the mods. Most of these characters are listed on the cast page, with NPC underneath their person.
+ Place your characters in different affiliations. Ever heard the phrase "don't put all your eggs into one basket?" The same thing applies here. Don't place all your characters at Xavier's or at the Brotherhood.
+ Original Characters WITH Original Powers are awesome. Take a scientific law, or medical mystery, and flow with it!
+ Bios are evaluated on the basis of their own merit. Many of us do not read comics, but we do a lot of research when looking at a bio. As long as the bio fits the game and does justice to the character, it should work.
+ Movie stars, musicians, or other famous peoples are NOT to be played. These lime-lighters are NOT mutants unless specifically mentioned.
RP
+ Actions will have repercussions. If you kill someone, it will be investigated; if you blow something up, it will take time to rebuild. "Cause and Effect" have a real life basis here.
+ Run major plots by the mod. If you do not, the plot could be removed. Major constitutes anything that can effect more than 4 characters or more than 1 faction. All we're asking for is a discussion so we know what's going on.
+ RPing that takes place on AIM and must be logged. HERE IS THE LOG FORMAT:
+ Threads and narratives: Any thread/narrative you have, it belongs in the in character community. HERE IS THE THREAD/NARRATIVE FORMAT:
+ You must decide if your character likes to keep a journal or not. You must specify where they are using a computer or if they own one, as well.
+ Your plots are your own. Mods will not hand-feed you plots in Convictions. The sandbox is all set up, kids, it's up to you to build the castles and moats. If you're stuck on a plot because you'd need a particular character for it, but nobody is playing them, you can ask a mod about NPCing them. Unless you're asking about the President of the United States, Mods won't have a problem with you NPCing on your own so long as there's a heads up.
+ You should not make up any NPCs without notifying the mods. It's as simple as leaving a message. We are trying to keep up with where NPCs are used so that those posts can be referenced by potential players - especially if they're canon.
+ NPCs can be handed out to be used by experienced players for important plots. Yes, there will be megaplots, but as the mod - that is moderator - the job description primarily involves the advertising and managing of this community. We can help map out plots, but we will NOT move them along unless they're ours.
